| Underdeck Access Platforms contract on Forth Road Bridge |
This project, the latest in a long list of successful projects for this client, entails the construction of access gantries under the bridge, which will enable inspection of the existing Demag expansion joints at the main bridge towers.
The gantries will be fixed to the structural steelwork supporting the deck and cross the bridge transversely at eight locations. Gaining access to install the gantries will firstly require the construction of a suspended scaffold. On completion of the temporary access scaffold the new steel gantries will be fixed into position.
The gantries are constructed in steel and will be prefabricated and painted off site, split into manageable sections, threaded between the existing structure and bolted into the final position. All the works will be carried out with no disruption to the traffic on the bridge.
